The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has launched two sustainability courses for tourism and hospitality professionals: 27 Measures of Sustainability and Dubai Sustainable Tourism
Developed under the Dubai Sustainable Tourism (DST) initiatives and delivered by Dubai College of Tourism (DCT) through the Dubai Way platform, the courses provide practical guidance on implementing sustainability measures across hospitality operations.
Announced at Arabian Travel Market 2026, the courses expand DST’s training offering alongside its sustainability standards, awards and programmes.
The 27 Measures of Sustainability course covers the updated framework for Dubai’s hospitality sector, which expands DET’s existing 19 Sustainability Requirements to 27 mandatory measures. The updated framework covers areas including energy and water efficiency, waste management, responsible sourcing, employee engagement, guest awareness, community initiatives and climate action. Hotels will be assessed against the 27 Measures in future cycles of the Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp.
The Dubai Sustainable Tourism course covers broader sustainability principles, including responsible resource consumption, waste management, circular practices and climate action, as well as the role of hotels and Green Teams in supporting sustainability across the tourism sector.
Since launching in 2017, Dubai Way has trained more than 190,000 candidates and delivered more than three million training hours, with over 1,475 establishments enrolled. The platform offers self-paced video lessons, interactive activities and assessments for tourism and hospitality professionals.
The courses also complement DST tools including the DST Carbon Calculator, which allows hotels to track emissions and identify areas for reduction and potential cost savings.
In July 2026, DET recognised 237 hotels in the third cycle of the Dubai Sustainable Tourism Stamp, up from 153 hotels in the previous cycle and 70 when the programme launched in 2023.
The new courses will be available on the Dubai Way platform from 21 September.
